Raised by Wolves . review
Raised by Wolves is an original sci-fi film from HBO Max whose first two episodes were directed by Ridley Scott . Ridley Scott is known for his films, including Alien (1979), Blade Runner (1982), Hannibal (2001) and The Martian. So the audience already has a bit of an idea of his previous works and the previously published trailer of this film, roughly what the film will look like.
The storyline written by Aaron Guzikowski focuses more on the assumption to regulate the order of human life, which, when compared to current conditions such as going through two things that must be separated in Western culture, is different from thinking based on Eastern culture which thinks it can be harmonized
In the concept of thinking "religion" is made into a clear dividing line in the regulation of state order with the thought of "technology" the storyline develops.
Androids are forbidden to raise human children. However, there are two androids called Father and Mother, who have a special mission from their creator, to raise human embryos on a relatively young planet, to restart human civilization, through an atheist parenting style and rely more on technology.
Mother has a higher technological ability than Father, thus making her a tyrant whose all desires and thoughts "as if" are the most correct. Mother was given this kind of ability by her creator, but was also given the option to stop herself if according to her considerations, she had deviated from the path of the task given by her creator, her requirements had to go through various analyzes and certain considerations. Mother's main task is to protect "humans" from all threats.
Father can be said to be a complementary android, so that its function is more towards giving peace in the form of occasionally throwing loose humor to keep the rules made by Mother. But Father has the ability to evolve, so it seems that in the next series there will be something related to this ability.
Meanwhile, in the human world, which prohibits androids from raising human children and upholding their religion, it seems that even more crimes are being committed in the name of the religion and symbols they believe in.
The idea of a story about android having this kind of ability seems familiar and usually the android is misprogrammed or develops into something different from the original purpose.
However, when watching up to three episodes, it seems that there are things that are different with the story idea in this film when compared to other story ideas. In this film, the audience will be brought their thoughts into the minds of children versus adults, to their thoughts on the basic debate about the essence of humanity itself.
Is it true that android can have more humanity than humans themselves?
Can a belief be determined or directed? To what extent is the level of human reasoning compared to the level of reasoning of an android?
What will happen if religion and technology are finally reunited?
All these questions can be answered in this 10-episode sci-fi series, and be prepared to see the technologies that will be featured in this film.
Android's mainstay weapon in the form of screams, indeed seems to remind the movie Screamers (1995), moreover there are similarities in the screams. But that's not all, in two episodes directed by Ridley Scott , you can see a lot of symbols and patterns implying there will be a rule and will give a big surprise at the end of the story.
For those who want to see Ridley Scott's debut in the film series, don't forget to check it out for the first time on September 3, 2020 on HBO GO .
